Happy Friday! A big week for new music with a couple major releases that are very exciting… let’s dive in!
The biggest music buzz in the alternative-pop world this week was the return of Twenty One Pilots. They released two songs, announced their next album (Trench, due out October 5th), and announced a tour.
The first song they released is “Jumpsuit”, which is more rock-leaning than a lot of people were anticipating. It seems like even though they’ve crossed over into mainstream pop, they don’t feel like they have to conform to the current sounds in pop music. It’s awesome.
The second release from Twenty One Pilots this week was “Nico And The Niners”. It’s really dark. It also sounds more like their other music than Jumpsuit does. Definitely excited to hear the full album when it comes out in October.
Producer Benny Blanco (Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect”, Julia Michaels’ “Issues”, Maroon 5’s “Don’t Wanna Know”) teamed up with Halsey and Khalid to give us “Eastside”. Could this be the song of the summer we’ve been waiting for? We’ll see!
Alessia Cara celebrated her own birthday by giving us a gift with this Shawn Mendes-approved track. This is the second track from her upcoming album The Pains Of Growing.
The Lumineers dropped EP today called C-Sides. It has three tracks: Visions Of China, For Fra, and Scotland.
