No More Local Rap Artists at The Waiting Room After Fatal Shooting

The Waiting Room has been a key part of Omaha’s hip hop community for years, but after a fatal shooting these local shows are coming to an end.

The Omaha World Herald has reported that The Waiting Room in Benson will no longer host local rap artists after the fatal shooting of 23 year old Michael Rowell, Jr, an aspiring rap artist.

The Waiting Room will still have concerts with national touring rap artists but, for now at least, they have come to an end.

You can read the full article in the Omaha World Herald here, which includes this statement from owner Marc Leibowitz:

“Rap has been a part of my entire life; I’m not happy about it,” the 45-year-old Leibowitz said. “It’s not what’s overall best for the music scene, but it might be what’s best for Benson and for the community. I hope someday we can bring it back.”
