Kelly Clarkson is out promoting the new season of “The Voice” and understandably the subject of her divorce from Brandon Blackstock keeps coming up.
Kelly admits navigating her new life isn’t easy, telling “Extra,” “It’s just one day when you’re like, ‘Wow, this has forever changed and it’s not just my heart has changed, there’s other little hearts, too.’”
Kelly has always been a pretty open book with her fans and she realizes that isn’t as easy as it once was. She notes, “It’s a very hard thing to navigate, to be able to be honest and share your story, so maybe you can help someone else, but at the same time protecting these little kids you adore.”
As for how she’s protecting her two children, six-year-old River and four-year-old Remi, as well as her step kids Savannah and Seth, she shares, “We have a lot of help as far as therapists or child psychologists ‘cause we want to do it right… Everyone’s sad and it’s okay to be sad.”
- Kelly also talked about being more private about her personal life with Entertainment Tonight. “I care one hundred percent more about my children than I do anything else on this planet,” she says. “So, that’s been the hard thing of, like, yes, I’m willing to share my experience and yes, it is the worst. I mean, the past few months have been horribly sad. But at the same time, I have to think, ‘Hmmm, like, what I say has a domino effect in other people’s lives.'”
- ONE MORE THING! Kelly’s “The Voice” co-star Gwen Stefani has also dealt with a surprising divorce, and Gwen says she’s doing what she can to help out. “Kelly and I have been talking about this a lot,” she tells “Extra.” “We’re so lucky to have music as an outlet for everything we all go through… Music is such therapy when you’re a writer.”
