Dr. Fauci Says Santa Is Safe From COVID

We’ve all been through a lot this year because of COVID and it’s been especially tough on kids. They’ve had their school routines disrupted, sporting events and playdates canceled and even had to take a raincheck on trick-or-treating, so now they’re looking to Christmas and wondering what to expect. Specifically, the little ones want to know if this pandemic is going to keep Santa from coming down the chimney this year and Dr. Anthony Fauci has some reassuring news for them.

Fauci, the leading infectious disease expert in the country, says kids don’t have to worry. He says Santa Claus will still be coming to town and he’s not bringing COVID when he does. “Santa is exempt from this because Santa, of all the good qualities, has a lot of good innate immunity,” Fauci explains. “Santa is not going to be spreading any infections to anybody.”

One thing that may be different with Kris Kringle this year? The way kids tell him what they want for Christmas. Malls across the U.S. are putting restrictions in place to help keep everyone safe, like not letting children sit on Santa’s lap, having plexiglass barriers between him and the tots and of course, social distancing. But even if they have to tell him their list of requested toys from six feet away or virtually in a Zoom call, he’ll come through for them like he always does on Christmas morning.
