iHop Cancels Free Pancake Day, But Is Still Giving Away Free Pancakes

By News Feb 17, 2021 | 9:23 AM

It looks like the coronavirus has robbed Americans of another yearly tradition – free pancakes.

iHop just announced they are canceling their annual Free Pancake Day promotion this year due to health and safety concerns for their customers and staff. This is a big deal for the fast food chain, since Free Pancake Day is usually one of the company’s busiest days.

But fear not pancake lovers. Even though you can’t eat free pancakes in the chain’s restaurants right now, iHop has still found a way to celebrate the fluffy breakfast treat. They just launched a new month-long promotion for members of their MyHop email club. Current members, or those who join by March 31st, can get an IOU to exchange for free short stack throughout April. Those who aren’t members can also get a free short stack with a $10 order if they download a coupon from the restaurant’s website.

“Rather than cancel the day completely during a time when everyone could use a little hoppiness,” IHOP President Jay Johns shares. “We decided to flip the day to a month-long event to give everyone the flexibility to enjoy a free Short Stack whenever they would like”

And while usually you could only get the free pancakes in the restaurant, this year customers can get them with their online order (in select restaurant locations). Those enjoying their free pancakes will also be helping a good cause. The promotion is part of the chain’s annual fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which since 2006 has raised more than $30 million.
