Mariah Carey re-interprets one of her classics for HBO Max's 'The Runaway Bunny'

Courtesy HBO MaxMariah Carey is re-doing one of her most beloved number-one hits for a new animated special based on a beloved children's book.

On March 25, HBO Max will air The Runaway Bunny, based on the 1942 book by Margaret Wise Brown, the same woman who wrote Goodnight Moon.  Mariah has created a new "reinterpretation" of her 1996 hit "Always Be My Baby" for the project, which will be narrated by Tracee Ellis Ross.  Ross has recorded "Song of the Runaway Bunny," which was also written by Brown, for the special.

You can hear the new version of "Always Be My Baby" in the trailer for the special.

In addition, Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland has recorded Bob Dylan's ballad "To Make You Feel My Love" -- previously recorded by the likes of Adele and Garth Brooks -- for the project.

Ziggy Marley and singer/songwriters Rosanne Cash and Rufus Wainright are among the other artists who've also contributed cover songs to the special.

The Runaway Bunny, which has sold over 12 million copies, is about a bunny who tells his mother he's going to run away, but as he imagines leaving and having all kinds of adventures, his mother is always able to find him.

Sensitive singer/songwriter alert: Dean Lewis & James Arthur return with new singles

Sensitive singer/songwriter alert: Dean Lewis & James Arthur return with new singles

Dean Lewis: Darren Craig; James Arthur: FilmawiLewis Capaldi isn't putting out a new album for a while, so if you're in the mood for songs by soulful, sensitive singer/songwriters, there are two great options for you today.

First, we've got a new single by Australian singer/songwriter Dean Lewis, whose song "Be Alright" was a huge hit a couple years ago. It's called "Falling Up," and in it, he sings, "I thought I'd be happy but I'm barely breathing...I wanted everything but nothing's ever good enough."

He explains, "I always thought I would be happy when...I had a big song.  Then I had a big song, and I was on the road for three years and when I stopped, I realized it had all passed me by and I was actually less present and more anxious and stressed than ever."

"I looked back on my life and at all of these points along the way and I realized that I’ve never felt any better, it’s always been onto the next thing...," he adds.

"These lyrics are about being online and focusing on that one negative comment in a sea of good," he reveals. "You feel the negativity and it affects your life and I took it on, and I found myself feeling more and more anxious and isolated. I really struggle with that.”

Meanwhile, British singer/songwriter James Arthur is back with a new single called "Medicine."  He's best-known in the U.S. for his 2016 hit "Say You Won't Let Go," and he's featured on the current hit "Lasting Lover" by British DJ/producer Sigala, which was co-written by Lewis Capaldi.

"'Medicine' is an uplifting ode to self, to relationships, to community and connection, and to the healing, restorative powers of love over adversity," James says in a statement.

Taylor Swift tweets her love for David Archuleta's "Love Story" mashup

ABCFormer American Idol runner-up David Archuleta showed his support for Taylor Swift this week and she gave him a boost right back.

Hello, I'm single: Adele's divorce is officially final

Kevin Mazur/WireImageAdele and her estranged husband Simon Konecki have finalized their divorce nearly two years after they announced their separation, Entertainment Tonight has confirmed.

A judge signed off on the settlement on Thursday, March 4.

The 14-time Grammy winner and Konecki filed a judgement packet in Los Angeles court on January 15, but it was not signed by the judge until now, ET reports.

The packet, filed by Adele, states the former couple has opted to determine rights to community property and debts through mediation, according to the entertainment magazine.

Adele, 32 and Konecki, 46, represented themselves in the case.

The former couple announced their divorce in 2019.  They began dating in 2011 and welcomed son Angelo in 2012. In March of 2017, Adele announced she was married during a concert in Australia; it was rumored that they'd tied the knot that January.

While Adele has been linked to British musician Skepta, she declared herself to be a "single cat lady" in October after she hosted Saturday Night Live.

Justin Bieber drops inspirational new track

Justin Bieber drops inspirational new track "Hold On"

RBMG/Def JamJustin Bieber is telling his fans to "Hold On" in his brand new single, which promises that they will always have someone who is willing to fight for them, no matter the obstacle.

The Canadian heartthrob dropped his new track and accompanying music video at the stroke of midnight.

"I need you to hold on/ Heaven is a place not too far away/ We all know I should be the one to say we all make mistakes," Bieber sings in the upbeat hopeful track. "Take my hand and hold on/ Tell me everything that you need to say/ 'Cause I know how it feels to be someone/ Feels to be someone who loses their way."

The "Hold On" music video is more heartbreaking than hopeful, as it tells the story of how far one person will go to keep the person they love alive, even if it means risking their own safety.

Bieber plays the boyfriend of actress Christine Ko's character, who is diagnosed with cancer and her condition slowly deteriorates -- forcing Bieber to consider taking drastic measures as the bills continue to pile up.

After selling everything he can to afford her treatments, the Grammy winner then uses a toy gun to rob a bank and leads police on a major chase, but is shot by an officer when he stops his motorcycle.

Injured, Bieber makes a beeline to the hospital, where he leads officers to the room where his girlfriend lays fighting for her life.  As he jumps onto her bed, she wraps her arms protectively around him and looks at the officers pouring into the room.

"Hold On" is the latest release from Justin's upcoming sixth studio album JUSTICE, which will also include Justin's current hits "Lonely," "Holy" and "Anyone."  The EP comes out March 19.

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak release steamy new track "Leave the Door Open"

Atlantic Records

Bruno Mars is back and is ushering his next music era with the help of Grammy-winning R&B star Anderson .Paak.  The two artists -- under the name Silk Sonic --  teamed up for the brand new single "Leave the Door Open," which they dropped on Friday.

The latest track is a teaser for Bruno and Anderson's upcoming joint album, An Evening With Silk Sonic

As for their first single together, talk about leaving the perfect first impression about what their fans can expect about their upcoming project.

The smooth track pours like a vintage red wine at the start of a romantic candlelit dinner.  In short, "Leave the Door Open" is the perfect single to spice up one's quarantine.

With a slow drum setting the pace, the steamy single has the two artists seducing their lady into climbing into bed them -- but not before ensuring their romantic escapade is nothing less than perfect.

"Ooh, baby, don't keep me waitin'/ There's so much love we could be making/ I’m talking kissing, cuddling/ Rose pedals in the bathtub/ Girl, let's jump in/ Its bubblin'," Paak invites as he flourishes on the piano.

Bruno takes over in the chorus, laying out the playful invitation with his signature falsetto, "I ain't playin' no games/ Every word that I say is coming straight from the heart/ So if you tryna lay in these arms/ I'ma leave the door open."

It is unknown when the duo will release the An Evening With Silk Sonic album.

The "Grenade" singer hasn't released an album since 2016's 24K Magic while Paak's latest offering was 2019's Ventura.

Nick Jonas says acting in new sci-fi movie 'Chaos Walking' was

Nick Jonas says acting in new sci-fi movie 'Chaos Walking' was "quite insane"

Murray CloseNick Jonas' big-budget sci-fi flick Chaos Walking is in theaters today. While Nick's done plenty of acting in the past, he says doing this movie was "quite insane"...because of its high-concept plot.

Based on the young adult trilogy of the same name, the movie follows Star Wars actor Daisy Ridley as Viola, a young woman who crash-lands on a distant planet where there are no females.

Tom Holland of Spider-Man fame plays Todd, who protects Viola when her life is threatened by the evil mayor, played by Mads Mikkelsen. Nick plays Davy Prentiss Jr., the mayor's son and Todd's nemesis.

Now here's the crazy part: All the men on the planet are afflicted by "the Noise": a phenomenon which allows their thoughts to be heard out loud by everyone at all times.

"The Noise is our main character in this movie," Nick says. "It's a funny way of thinking about things, but it really is. Y'know, in most scene preparation...you think about what your internal dialogue is. And with this, it's all out there!"

"So at first I had to wrap my head around the concept as a whole," he explains. "And then actually acting with that as a piece of the puzzle was really quite insane."

However, Nick enjoyed working with Tom Holland, who he'd met when he was promoting Jumanji and Tom was promoting Spider-Man.

"Tom Holland is a great guy...we hit it off right away," Nick says. "It was just really exciting because when you meet somebody and you like them outside of a work environment, it makes that much easier and more fun."

"Although our relationship on camera is very tense...I was so mean to him!" Nick laughs. "But, you know, it's part of the job!"

Adam Levine attacked online by bands for saying there

Adam Levine attacked online by bands for saying there "aren’t any bands anymore"

Greg Doherty/Getty Images for Entertainment StudiosMaroon 5's Adam Levine is being taken to task online by various bands for declaring that there "aren't any bands anymore."

Adam made that comment Wednesday while talking to Apple Music's Zane Lowe about Maroon 5's new single "Beautiful Mistakes."  What he said specifically was, "It's funny, when the first Maroon 5 album came out there were still other bands. I feel like there aren't any bands anymore, you know?"

"That's the thing that makes me kind of sad, is that there were just bands," he continued. "There's no bands anymore, and I feel like they're a dying breed."

It seems that what Adam is talking about specifically is bands who are making pop music, or who are on the pop charts, because he goes on to say, "I mean, there still are plenty of bands, and maybe they're not in the limelight quite as much, or in the pop limelight, but I wish there could be more of those around."

A glance at Billboard's Pop Airplay chart reveals there are currently only three bands in the Top 40.

However, many bands are now coming after Adam as though he said that bands, on a whole, don't exist.

90s alt-rockers Garbage responded by tweeting, "What are we Adam Levine? CATS?!?!”

Fellow '90s alt-rockers Eve 6 tweeted, "adam levine there are like 500k bands and they all think yer a nerd."

The pop-rock band Dreamers responded, "Adam Levine complaining 'there’s no bands anymore' is like the owner of Starbucks complaining there’s no local coffee shops anymore."

One Twitter user snarked, "adam levine doesnt know genres other than top 40 exist."

Another Twitter user joked, "what i’m hearing is that adam levine wants one direction to come back too."

Let Nick Jonas take you to "Heaven" with new song from upcoming album 'Spaceman'

Will Heath/NBCIn case you missed it last weekend when he debuted it on Saturday Night Live, Nick Jonas has now officially released the upbeat track "This Is Heaven," from his upcoming album Spaceman.

"This Is Heaven" follows the album's title track.  Speaking to Apple Music about his decision to release the songs in this order, Nick explained, "It felt like the right thing to start with 'Spaceman' because it is such a stark visual and creative idea to then start the conversation of songs like 'This Is Heaven,' which I'm really excited about."

"It touches on some of the things I did with 'Jealous' and tracks like that, but in a new way," Nick added of the song.

Spaceman arrives March 12. It's his first solo album since 2016's Last Year Was Complicated.

There's no shortage of Nick these days: Not only is he a coach on this season of The Voice, but his new movie Chaos Walking comes out on Friday, and he's lent his voice to the new Apple TV+ series Calls, which debuts March 19.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga "emotional and grateful" dogs are back and dog walker is healing

Deepixel/GC ImagesAfter an emotional week, Lady Gaga is feeling "grateful."

Last Wednesday, the "Rain On Me" singer's dogs were stolen and her dog walker Ryan Fischer was critically injured after being shot during the robbery. Her pups, two French bulldogs named Koji and Gustav, have since been returned safely and Fischer is expected to recover, something sources tell People that Gaga was "emotional and grateful" for.

"[When] she got the terrible news from Los Angeles, she was extremely upset," the source shared of the singer, who'd flown to Italy to film a new movie just two days before the incident. "She was worried about her friend and her dogs. It was a terrible start to her Italian work trip."

The insider added that Gaga -- who offered a $500,000 reward for the safe return of her dogs --  "stayed in her hotel room" and remained "hopeful it would all work out" as she waited for updates.

Two days later, on Friday, the dogs were brought in to the Los Angeles Police Department by a woman who was reportedly not involved in the dognapping.

The culprits have not been caught and are still at large.

Mariah Carey's brother sues her for defamation over memoir

Mariah Carey's brother sues her for defamation over memoir

Amy Sussman/FilmMagicMariah Carey has found herself in the center of a defamation lawsuit, filed by her brother Morgan Carey, over her new memoir.

The lawsuit was taken out a month after the songstress' sister, Alison Carey, also filed suit over certain passages in the book.

Page Six reports that Morgan, who is 10 years his sister's senior, claims Mariah misrepresented him and wrongly labeled him a violent person.

His lawsuit states, "Many passages about [Morgan] in the book are false and defamatory, personally invasive and painful, and have caused serious damage to his reputation and to his personal and business affairs."

Morgan also claims the book damaged his career, stating that he was in negotiations over a film project that fell through as a result of what she said in The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

The suit alleges that the suit is more about principal as it "brings this action more in sorrow and disappointment in his sister’s betrayals and malicious falsehoods than in anger at them."

As for what Mariah wrote about him in the memoir, Morgan claims it is "mere gossip and of prurient interest."

Morgan furthers that he is not an abuser, as the memoir alleges, and that their father was the sole aggressor in the family.  He has particular issue with a chapter in the book that claims he "slammed” their mother into a wall -- of which he says is false.

"The violence was entirely one-sided, with the plaintiff being the recipient of his misplaced rage," states the suit, adding that Mariah's allegations are "a betrayal and deep hurtful violation."

He is suing for unspecified damages.

Taylor Swift reveals favorite 'folklore' lyric, plans DIY approach to future projects

Taylor Swift reveals favorite 'folklore' lyric, plans DIY approach to future projects

Beth GarrabrantTaylor Swift's first surprise album of 2020, folklore, is nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards later this month, and now she's deconstructing one of her favorite lyrics on the album in the new issue of People.

The lyric in question is "She had a marvelous time ruining everything," and it appears in the folklore standout "The Last Great American Dynasty." That song, and the lyric, are both about Rebekah Harkness, the real-life heiress who previously owned Taylor's mansion in Rhode Island.  Back in the day, Harkness was the talk of the town because of her eccentric and flamboyant lifestyle.

"I'm really proud of [that lyric]...because it's about what happens when women step out of their cages and run," Taylor tells People. "It can be a real pearl-clutching moment for society when a woman owns her desires and wildness."

She adds, "I love the idea that the woman in question would be too joyful in her freedom to even care that she's ruffling feathers, raising eyebrows or becoming the talk of the town -- the idea that she decided there were marvelous times to be had, and that was more important."

Having released not one but two acclaimed albums while in quarantine last year -- the other being evermore -- Taylor tells People that she may continue that way of working even when the pandemic is over.

"You can write songs without traveling or being in the same space as another collaborator," she marvels. "You can tell your fans about what you made without going on an international promo tour. These are options I didn't explore before and I'm glad that I know they exist now."

Taylor states, "In the future I will always explore that option...If I can do it myself, I will."

Two-night Janet Jackson documentary event set for Lifetime and A&E in 2022

Two-night Janet Jackson documentary event set for Lifetime and A&E in 2022

David Becker/Getty Images for Park MGM2022 will mark the 40th anniversary of Janet Jackson's self-titled debut album, and that milestone will be celebrated with a two-night, four-hour documentary event next year.

The documentary, whose working title is JANET, will air in early 2022 on Lifetime and A&E.  It will detail the "immense success" and "incredible tragedy" that Janet has endured, having to deal with her "tumultuous private life" while spending most of her life in the public eye.

The documentary begins as Janet and her family are mourning the death of her father Joseph, and follows her return to the stage after an extended break.  In between, she'll discuss her controversial Super Bowl performance with Justin Timberlake, her brother Michael Jackson's death, welcoming her son Eissa at the age of 50, and her various romantic relationships.

Janet and her brother Randy Jackson are executive producers of the doc.

A press release announces that "no subject" was "off limits" for the film. Janet has typically been very private about her personal life, which has included a 1984 elopement followed by an annulment, a 1991 secret marriage that ended in 1999, and a 2012 marriage that ended in 2017, just months after Janet and her then-husband had their first child.

Both Janet's 1982 debut album and its 1984 follow-up failed to make much of an impact on the charts. It was her third album, 1986's Control, that made her a superstar.

Camila Cabello took part in weekly racial healing sessions: "Now I know better so I can do better"

Mike Coppola/FilmMagicCamila Cabello understands that before you dedicate yourself to helping others, sometimes you have to help yourself first.

The singer tells People in its Women Changing the World issue that after she issued her 2019 public apology for racist language she used on her Tumblr page as a teen, she enrolled herself in weekly racial healing sessions with the National Compadres Network.

"It created a space where I was held accountable," she says. "You get corrected, you have homework, and you learn. That's how you move forward. Now I know better so I can do better."

Camila has since taken what she’s learned in those sessions and used it to create something positive.

"As I learned more about other people's experiences in the world, I was like, 'How do I help the people who are on the frontlines of dismantling systems that create oppression? And how do I bridge that with my own personal journey with mental health and healing?'" Camila, who suffers from anxiety, says.

In January, she launched the Healing Justice Project to help provide activists with mental health support.

"A lot of activists don't have the time or resources to take care of themselves," Camila, who turns 24 today, says. "When you're struggling or feeling burnout, it's hard to show up for other people. You have to heal yourself before you can heal the community."

Healing Justice Project, in partnership with the nonprofit Movement Voter Fund, was able to provide grants to 10 BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and youth-led organizations to fund mental health resources for their workers.

Maroon 5 releases new single; Adam Levine says new album is

Maroon 5 releases new single; Adam Levine says new album is "finished," release is "not far off"

222/InterscopeMaroon 5 fans will be thrilled to know that a new album -- the follow-up to 2017's Red Pill Blues -- is on the way.

Speaking to Apple Music's Zane Lowe, frontman Adam Levine says, "I can tell you right now that the album's done. And I can tell you it's finished, I can tell you it's been mastered, and I can tell you it's been delivered, but I can't tell you when it comes out. But just it's not far off, I'll just say that."

In the meantime, we can enjoy the band's new single, "Beautiful Mistakes," featuring chart-topping rapper Megan Thee Stallion, which has just been released.  Adam says they wrote it during a summer in New York with singer/songwriter/producer Blackbear, and adds that he's "absolutely obsessed" with the tune.

As for having Megan guest on the track, Adam says she "100% meets all the criteria" for a feature on one of their songs: "Just this really special person, super talented, having a moment."  She's one of many rappers the band has collaborated with in the past -- a list that includes Cardi B, Wiz Khalifa and Kendrick Lamar.

"It's almost kind of this great symbiosis that occurs between whoever the feature[d artist] is and the band, where it's at this great moment where we feel like we really have read the right timing," Adam explains. "And it's nice, because it opens up our eyes to new things, and theirs as well, so it's really been great."
