Berlin's Terri Nunn talks new orchestral album and "Take My Breath Away," the "gift that just keeps on giving"

Marc GreenHit-making '80s band Berlin just released a new album, Strings Attached, featuring new versions of their hits accompanied by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. It includes "Take My Breath Away," "Metro," "No More Words," "Sex (I'm A)" and more.  Frontwoman Terri Nunn says adding an orchestra to their music makes it "majestic."

"I had sung with orchestras three or four times. The first time that I heard my music played by an orchestra, I cried," she tells ABC Audio. "It was huge, it was majestic. I've never heard my music like that. So any opportunity I got was an instant 'yes' to do it."

So when Berlin was approached with the concept of No Strings Attached, Terri laughs, she said, "Let me think about it...YES!"

"I'm in love with it. I think it's fantastic music," she gushes.  In fact, when concerts start up again, she wants to do a tour featuring Berlin playing with a different orchestra in each city.

But no discussion of Berlin is ever complete without a reference to the Top Gun hit "Take My Breath Away."  So, will we hear it in Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel that's due out next summer?

"All we heard was there's talk that they're putting it...in the movie, like, he goes into a bar and [Tom Cruise] hears it and says 'Oh, I really like that song!'" she laughs. "Which would be very cool!"

"That song was a gift in my life that just keeps on giving," adds Terri of the Oscar-winning smash. "I'm in awe of it because it just keeps going...people never seem to get tired of it."

"Some things...they take off and they have their own lives," Terri says. "'Take My Breath Away'......it's one of those songs, you know?

Tonight, get ready to sing along with Disney...and Pink, Katy, Adam, BTS & more

ABC

Start your vocal warmups now:  Tonight, ABC's Disney Holiday Singalong will let you belt out your favorite Disney classics alongside some of your favorite musical stars.

The third installment of the Disney Singalong concept, tonight's show will feature Katy Perry, Pink, Adam Lambert, BTS, Michael Buble, Leslie Odom Jr., Kerry Washington, Derek and Julianne Hough, Ciara and opera legend Andrea Bocelli, all lending their famous voices to holiday favorites and Disney songs alike.

"So many people talked about the first two volumes of the show, that we felt like we had to do it again, and what a perfect time," says host Ryan Seacrest.  "[And] a lot of the artists are on with their kids and their families, which makes it really special."

In addition to the pop stars, the show will feature the casts of Disney on Broadway shows including Frozen, The Lion King and Aladdin, who all gathered at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theater to do, "the most amazing rendition of 'Let It Go' -- you have to see it!" says Ryan.

"Y'know, Broadway's been shut down since the beginning of spring and this is the first time that these performers will be onstage together [since then], which is remarkable," he adds.

As for the concept's popularity, Ryan explains, "I got so much great feedback from moms, dads, kids -- they got together in their living rooms and they sang together and they loved the fact that we provided them with the lyrics.  I think that helps, so nobody can have the excuse of not participating."

"Except for me," Ryan jokes. "I can't sing, so I won't...but I'll be watching you!"

The Disney Holiday Singalong airs at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Here's a list of who's singing what:

Andrea Bocelli – “Silent Night”
BTS – “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”
Michael Bublé – “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”
Ciara – “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”
Chloe x Halle – “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”

Pentatonix says Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will be "a lot different this year"

Jabari JacobsPentaonix is one of the many acts who'll be performing at this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it won't look like parades of the past.

Asked what their performance will look like Thursday in New York City, a cappella group admitted, "We don't totally know yet."

"I know we're not we're not, like, going to be going around the block," said member Scott Hoying. "Like, they're not doing the whole parade thing. It's just, like, all in front of Macy's."

Scott's right: This year, instead of moving down Broadway in front of thousands of cheering spectators, most of the action will be centered right in front of Macy's flagship New York City store. There will be floats and balloons, but they won't be moving around too much.

"And I think we actually -- I don't know this for sure, but I think we just walk out, perform and then walk off," Scott laughed. "I think that's it. So, yeah, it's a lot different because of COVID this year for sure."

According to Macy's, at some point, the group will be standing in front of, or on, the Hallmark Heartwarming Holiday Countdown float. No word yet on what they'll sing, but it'll probably be something from their new holiday album, We Need a Little Christmas.

Other performers at the parade this year include Goo Goo Dolls, Jordin Sparks, Patti LaBelle, Dolly Parton, Bebe Rexha, Tori Kelly, Ally Brooke, Darlene Love, country stars Lauren Alaina and Brett Young, and the casts of hit Broadway musicals like Hamilton, Jagged Little Pill, Ain't Too Proud -- The Life and Times of The Temptations and Mean Girls.

The fun starts at 9 a.m. ET in all time zones on NBC.

Watch Shawn Mendes admit to Alicia Keys that his Netflix doc makes him look like

Watch Shawn Mendes admit to Alicia Keys that his Netflix doc makes him look like "kind of a d**k"

Courtesy NetflixIn a Netflix Movie Club feature, Shawn Mendes and the woman he considers a "mentor," Alicia Keys, discuss their creative processes, as well as Shawn's new song, "Wonder," vulnerability, and Shawn's new Netflix documentary -- which he admits isn't always flattering.

While making the documentary, In Wonder, Shawn explains that even though it was kind of awkward to have a film crew following him around, it was important, because he wanted the director to capture all the moments, both good and bad.  And that sometimes gave Shawn more than he bargained for.

"The hard part was editing because when things start coming together, you start seeing the guy on the screen who looks amazing and sounds amazing and seems so caring and loving," Shawn tells Alicia. "But you also see the guy who's kind of a d**k sometimes when he gets scared and gets frustrated -- and you're like, 'Uh, I don't know if I want people to see that guy.'"

Alicia cracks up and responds, "Yeah, so, do you go for it?"

"You just gotta let 'em see it, you have them let them see that vulnerability," Shawn insists. "And that's the point of doing something like that. Otherwise, for me, like, doing documentary would just be to elevate my name and that to me is not a good enough reason to do a documentary."

In Wonder is streaming on Netflix now, along with something that just debuted today: Shawn Mendes: Live in Concert.  It documents Shawn's stadium show in his hometown of Toronto.

He wrote on Twitter, "Wanted to give you guys something as a thank you for all of the love on the doc. I know we all miss live shows so much right now so tonight we're releasing #LiveInConcert, the full concert film from the Rogers Centre."

Katherine Heigl (and her fans) are shocked(!) to learn what Harry Styles' "Watermelon Sugar" is about

Erskine/ColumbiaIf you've been singing along to Harry Styles' number-one hit, "Watermelon Sugar," for the past year and you don't know what it's actually about, then brace yourself.  Former Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl and her fans just found out and -- well, it's pretty awkward.

The actress posted a video of her husband, singer/songwriter Josh Kelley, and two of their kids doing a dance to the song, in front of a huge TV playing the "Watermelon Sugar" video.  One fan wrote in the comments, "Oh no, this song is about [a specific sex act] but the kids don’t need to know that."

A shocked Heigl wrote back, "the kids??!! What about me??!! I thought it was a random slightly chaotic song about watermelons and sugar and...well hell I have no idea what I thought the song was about but [that specific sex act] never once crossed my mind...I guess Harry and I have different adjectives to describe the experience."

Many other fans then commented that they also were unaware of the song's meaning, with one writing, "I didn’t know either...my son and I sing this song in the car all the time."

It's worth noting, however, that Harry himself has never declared what the song is about, though if you read the lyrics and watch the video, it's pretty obvious.  For what it's worth, Harry has said the title was inspired by a 1968 novel called In Watermelon Sugar, which has also been referenced in a number of other books and songs.

Taylor Swift confirms mystery co-writer on 'folklore' is boyfriend Joe Alwyn

Taylor Swift confirms mystery co-writer on 'folklore' is boyfriend Joe Alwyn

Disney+Fans guessed it, but now it’s confirmed: Taylor Swift’s mystery collaborator on folklore was none other than her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.

The singer confirmed in her new Disney+ concert film out today, folklore: the long pond studio sessions, that “William Bowery” -- listed as a co-writer on the songs “exile” and “betty” -- is a pseudonym for Joe.

“So, William Bowery is Joe, as we know,” Taylor says. “And Joe plays piano beautifully, and he’s just always playing and making things up and kind of creating things.”

She continues, “‘Exile’ was crazy because Joe had written that entire piano part and was singing the Bon Iver part. He was just singing it, the way that the whole first verse is. So I was entranced and asked if we could keep writing that one. It was pretty obvious that it should be a duet because he’s got such a low voice and it sounded really good sung down there in that register.”

Taylor also detailed his contributions to the song “betty.”

“I just heard Joe singing the entire fully formed chorus of ‘betty’ from another room and it was just like, ‘Hello’. It was a step that we would have never taken because why would we have ever written a song together?” she said.

“So this was the first time we had a conversation where I came in and was like ‘Hey, this could be really weird and we could hate this, so because we’re in quarantine and there’s nothing else going on, could we just try and see what it’s like if we write this song together?’”

Turns out it was a success. Less of a success was keeping his identity a secret -- fans pretty much figured out the pseudonym right away.

Mariah Carey reflects on singing

Mariah Carey reflects on singing "When You Believe" with Whitney Houston

ABC/Image Group LAMariah Carey is dispelling the rumors once and for all concerning her supposed rivalry with the late Whitney Houston.

Speaking to supermodel Naomi Campbell Tuesday on No Filter, the "Fantasy" singer touched upon the time she and Houston lent their voices to The Prince of Egypt soundtrack.  Their duet, "When You Believe," went on to win the 1999 Academy Award for Best Song.

22 years after hitting the recording studio together, Carey happily discussed just how well she got on with the "Greatest Love of All" singer.

"She and I had the best time," she attested. "People didn’t expect us to get along."

The 50-year-old singer says those who thought the two personalities would clash "didn’t know me."

Continued Mariah, "Anyone who knew us both was like, 'Oh they're gonna totally get along,'" which is exactly what happened.

"I really appreciate her giving her spirit and her giving of herself with me because she didn’t have to be like that," The multi-Grammy Award winner shared. "She was there before me and I totally get who she was and what she meant to this world."

Carey went onto reveal the last time she and Houston saw each other, which was at a party thrown by Prince Azim of Brunei.

In the singer's memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, which came out in September, Carey claims that "everybody wanted to pit us against each other in some 'battle of the divas.'"

Calling the tactic a "tired but pervasive pathology in music and Hollywood that makes women compete for sales like emotional UFC fighters," the singer clarified that the two "developed a real fondness for each other."

"I’ll always cherish the memory of that time and of all that she left behind," she added, calling their time together "pure fun."

Did Kelly Clarkson just hint at a reason for her divorce?

Did Kelly Clarkson just hint at a reason for her divorce?

Weiss Eubanks/NBC UniversalOn her talk show Tuesday, Kelly Clarkson talked about some of the lessons she's learned this year, and one of those lessons might provide a hint as to why she and Brandon Blackstock, her husband of nearly seven years, split up in 2020.

Asked to complete the phrase, "I'm grateful in 2020 for the lesson I learned about...", Kelly said "Myself," and then went to explain to viewers, "Even at 38, I feel like I'm always changing and progressing in a good sense, in a good way. And I always want to make sure I'm being the best version of myself."

She then noted that her mother always told her, "you are who you surround yourself with," and went on to elaborate: "You want to make sure you're surrounded by people that also want to be the best versions of themselves and also want a good common goal for everyone, not just themselves, right?"

"People, like, could be bad for you in a certain time. And I think that everybody just goes, 'Oh, well, that means they're bad,'" she continued. "Well, it doesn't necessarily mean that, it just means that you're on different paths. And I think that that's okay."

She added, "Everybody's on a different learning curve."

Kelly filed for divorce in June from Brandon, with whom she shares two children, plus his two kids from his previous relationship.  In the season premiere of her show, Kelly said that despite her usual transparency, she felt she couldn't be completely open with her viewers about her divorce because she wanted to protect her children, who are her first priority.

However, in an interview, she did allow that the divorce is "the worst thing ever, you know, for everyone involved."

Jennifer Lopez reacts to Netflix's 'Selena: The Series'

Netflix (Christian Serratos as Selena)Jennifer Lopez has no shame in passing the Selena baton.

The 51-year-old entertainer catapulted to fame after she portrayed the late singer in the 1997 film and now she can't wait to see it reimagined with Netflix's Selena: The Series. In a clip shared to the streaming platform's social media, Lopez reminisced before dishing her thoughts on the new series.

"Guys, I don't know if you've heard about this new Selena series on Netflix," Lopez began. "Playing Selena was kind of a landmark moment in my career and I was so excited when I saw the trailer and heard about it. It's a great way for this generation to get to know Selena. I love Selena. It's a big part of my life and my career. And I can't wait to see it."

The new series sees Walking Dead alum Christian Serratos transformed into the Tejano queen to tell her life story before it was tragically cut short in 1995. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Serratos dished about a "special moment" that occurred while portraying Selena.

"When I was younger, I remember hearing her music in the house," Serratos recalled. "When I got older, YouTube became a big thing and I discovered this video of her performing 'Que Creias.' Whenever I would talk about Selena, that was the video I showed every one of her. I was able to perform that song on the show, and I was so nervous and so excited! I didn't want to speak to anyone because that was my special moment with her. It was really incredible!"

Selena was murdered at age 23 by her fan club's president, Yolanda Saldivar.  She would have been 49 this year.

Taylor Swift talks re-recording old songs, new 'folklore' concert film on Disney+

Taylor Swift talks re-recording old songs, new 'folklore' concert film on Disney+

ABCAmid the drama over her old masters, Taylor Swift is busy "having a really good time" re-recording her older music.

The 30-year-old singer appeared on Good Morning America Wednesday to discuss her new concert film folklore: the long pond studio sessions for Disney+ and also opened up about which hit she's been the most excited to breathe new life into.

"So far, of the ones I've recorded, I think it's been the most fun doing 'Love Story' because the older music, my voice was so teenaged and I sometimes, when I hear my older music and my older young teenage voice, it makes me feel like I'm a different singer now," Taylor said. "So it's been the most fun to re-record ones that I feel like I could actually possibly improve upon the song."

While Swift called this a "really amazing, fun adventure," she's still focused on her 2020 album, folklore, which was created in quarantine and released on July 24 amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.

"It was so crazy to create an album from my house. I had never done that before. I've always worked in studios," she noted. "This was an experience unlike anything else and it really changed, I think, what this year would have been for me emotionally and mentally."

Swift said the inspiration of folklore: the long pond studio sessions was to give fans something that felt "like listening to the record felt, just kind of full of warmth and as cozy." It was also the first time she got to play all the songs with her collaborators, Jack Antonoff, The National's Aaron Dessner and Bon Iver's Justin Vernon.

On Tuesday, folklore earned Taylor six Grammy nominations.

Christina Perri reveals pregnancy loss: "She is at peace now and will live forever in our hearts"

Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for The Recording AcademyAfter being hospitalized earlier this month due to pregnancy complications, "A Thousand Years" singer Christina Perri made the heartbreaking announcement late Tuesday that her baby didn't make it.

"Last night we lost our baby girl," Christina shared on Instagram alongside a photo of her and husband Paul Costabile gently holding their little one's hand. "She was born silent after fighting so hard to make it to our world."

"She is at peace now and will live forever in our hearts," concluded the 34-year-old.

Paul later shared his wife's announcement on his personal account, adding, "It’s been a rough couple weeks and we’re so grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers from you all."

The couple first announced in July that they were expecting a new arrival come January.

Christina was later hospitalized shortly after posing for tastefully shot nude maternity photos to "celebrate and honor my pregnancy, my baby & my beautiful body."

"Baby is having an issue, so I'm gonna be here till it's time for baby to come out," the "Human" singer shared via her Instagram stories on November 11. "Which might have to be very soon. Which is very early."

Throughout her hospitalization, the singer remained open about the scare.  After being discharged, Christina later revealed that the baby would require surgery after being born due to a lingering complication.

Christina and Paul are the parents of two-year-old, Carmella.  The singer previously revealed this past January that she had suffered a miscarriage.

Josh Groban says his virtual concerts have their own

Josh Groban says his virtual concerts have their own "beauty and poetry"

RepriseOn Thanksgiving Day at 4 p.m. ET, Josh Groban will do a special livestream concert to celebrate the release of his new album Harmony.   So far this year, Josh has done a couple of these performances, and at the first one, he was surprised that he didn't miss the audience as much as he thought he would.

"It was its own beauty and poetry," he tells ABC Audio. "We were just in this black box in Burbank, and we're singing out to the void, and it felt amazing for us to put everybody to work again and put on a suit and and sing."

He adds, "For us...we were just looking at each other, [at] that first one, just going, 'How great is it to just do this? First of all, for us, let's just take a moment, even though there's no clapping, to just love this.'"

Josh says Thursday's concert will include songs from Harmony, requests from fans and past hits.

"It's going to be a lot of fun for us to play the new music, play songs that have been requested and we've got a space booked that's going to look incredible, and more musicians than we've had on the other live streams," he teases.  "We keep trying to level up and make the production and musicality of it even better each time."

But while he may not miss the applause, how does he handle he fact that nobody's there to laugh at his jokes?

"My goal always is to make my musicians and crew laugh, because they know all my shtick," he reveals. "My goal is always to to catch them off-guard. And so my feeling is, if I can hear cackles behind me, then there's probably a little bit of cackling happening out in the ether!"

Notable Grammy 2020 milestones: Taylor Swift, Post Malone, Beyoncé & beyond

Notable Grammy 2020 milestones: Taylor Swift, Post Malone, Beyoncé & beyond

Beth GarrabrantYou've likely already heard that Beyoncé's nine Grammy nominations today make her the most-nominated female artist of all time, with 79 career nods. But other artists racked up some notable accomplishments with their nominations as well, as Billboard points out.

Among Taylor Swift's six nominations is one for Song of the Year, for "Cardigan."  It's her fifth nod in this category, more than any other female songwriter in Grammy history.

Thanks to "Circles," Post Malone is the first artist in more than 30 years to be nominated for Record of the Year three years in a row.  He was previously nominated last year for "Sunflower," and two years ago for "Rockstar."  The last artist who pulled this off was Steve Winwood, from 1986-1988.

Harry Styles is the first member of One Direction to receive a Grammy nomination.  He has three nods, and in the category of Best Pop Vocal Album, he's up against his former girlfriend Taylor Swift.

Noah Cyrus -- Miley's little sister -- is nominated for Best New Artist.  Her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, was nominated in that same category 28 years ago. This is the first time a child of a Best New Artist nominee has shown up in this category since 1985, when Julian Lennon was nominated. His dad, John Lennon, won the award as a member of The Beatles.

Beyoncé is nominated twice in the Record of the Year category, for her song "Black Parade" and also for "Savage," Megan Thee Stallion's hit on which she's featured.  She's just the second artist in history to receive two nods in this category in the same year.  Seven years ago, Pharrell Williams was the first, thanks to his features on "Get Lucky," by Daft Punk, and "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke.

The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards will air January 31 on CBS, with The Daily Show's Trevor Noah as host.

Justin Bieber finds it

Justin Bieber finds it "strange" Grammys didn't nominate him in the R&B category

ABCJustin Bieber scored four Grammy nominations on Tuesday and while he was happy about it, he was also a little confused.

In a post on Instagram, the singer said he found it “strange” that his Changes album was nominated in the Best Pop Vocal Album category when it is “unmistakably an R&B album.”

“To the Grammys I am flattered to be acknowledged and appreciated for my artistry. I am very meticulous and intentional about my music. With that being said I set out to make an R&B album. Changes was and is an R&B album,” Justin wrote.

He continued, “It is not being acknowledged as an R&B album which is very strange to me. I grew up admiring R&B music and wished to make a project that would embody that sound.”

Justin clarified that while he absolutely loves pop music, it just wasn’t the type of album he set out to make. “My gratitude for feeling respected for my work remains and I am honored to be nominated either way,” he concluded.

In the caption he added, “Please don’t mistake this as me being ungrateful, these are just my thoughts take em or leave em. Thank you to the people who fought for me to even have any noms.”

Justin was also nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Intentions” with Quavo, Best Pop Solo Performance for “Yummy” and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his feature on Dan + Shay’s “10,000 Hours.”

To be fair, Justin's record company may be behind this. It's possible that when they submitted his music for Grammy consideration, they only submitted him for the pop categories.

Many found his omission puzzling given that his album After Hours debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and spawned the hit single “Blinding Lights,” which rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 40 weeks in the top 10.

Further solidifying his mega successful year, The Weeknd was announced as the next Super Bowl halftime show performer earlier this month. These career highs put him on most Grammy prediction lists, but Tuesday’s nominations left him out of every single category.

It's not clear why he was snubbed, but the Grammys has shown The Weeknd lots of love in years past. He previously won Best Urban Contemporary Album for Beauty Behind the Madness and Best R&B Performance for "Earned It" in 2016 and Best Urban Contemporary Album again in 2018 with Starboy.

Along with The Weeknd, other noticeable snubs included Halsey, R&B star Summer Walker, Alicia Keys, Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, the Jonas Brothers and country acts Blake Shelton, Gabby Barrett and The Chicks.

Get your first look at Goo Goo Dolls "augmented-reality movie musical" 'It's Christmas All Over'

Courtesy FanTracksGoo Goo Dolls have announced details of It's Christmas All Over, an "augmented-reality movie musical" inspired by their holiday album of the same name.

The movie, created with the livestreaming platform FanTracks, debuts globally at 7 p.m. ET on December 12, though FanTracks subscribers can get a sneak peek at the day before.

In the film, Goo Goo Dolls travel through the past, present and future in search of the lost "Spirit of Christmas."  During their travels, which take them to city streets, subways, taxis, a 1940s-era speakeasy and the set of The Ed Sullivan Show, the band will perform songs from their holiday album and classic holiday standards.  The message: Even though we're all being kept apart by our current situation, we're all unified by the true meaning of Christmas.

The band is also offering two autographed guitars to be auctioned off as a fundraiser for Music Gives to St Jude Kids -- St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The whole thing was shot back in October.  In a statement, singer John Rzeznik says, "It was such an amazing experience getting to play songs from our new record live for the first time.  We can’t wait for everyone to see and hear these Christmas tunes in this unique way, and we hope they bring some cheer to this peculiar holiday season. Happy holidays from all of us to every single one of you!!”

While the movie will be free to watch, fans can purchase VIP private video Meet-and-Greets and a Q&A with the band.

By the way, there was an "Ultimate Goo Goo Dolls Christmas VIP Package" that cost $1,500, but it's sold out. In addition to a 10-minute private meet-and-greet, it included all the exclusive merch the group created to promote the holiday album, from a Christmas sweater and scarf to a limited-edition record layer and a "leg lamp," just like the one in A Christmas Story.
